Cartagena is a city of contrasts...
These birdseye views of some of the areas of Cartagena taken from the Monesterio de La Popa hill give a fairly good idea of the contrasts.

Birdseye looking northwest from the Monesterio de La Popa, Cartegena, Columbia, 2011.
This view shows newer Boca Grande neighborhood on the far side of the harbor as well as a bit of the commercial port on the near side.
In the foreground, the "newer" neighborhood is on the right and the further left you look the older the buildings.

This view was taken to the left of the former view and shows more of the commercial port including the Grand Princess cruise ship at the dock.
Here you can also see the "inner harbor" waterways.
Running left to right in the foreground is Avenida Pedro de Heredia, one of the more major boulevards.

This view shows the northern end of Avenida Pedro de Heredia where it passes near the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas and continues toward the walled old town.

This view of Avenida Pedro de Heredia is a little further south where it intersects at a angle with Calle 29d.
When we were there, there was a lot of construction going on along the Avenida including new utility lines and a new bus stop.

Carrera 25c and a street market.
The Plaza de Mercado Baziurto can be seen in the top left.
